Vision System Upgrade

Automate Your Laser Cutting Alignment With The Latest Optical Alignment Technology From Beam Dynamics.

Beam's Vision System leverages KeyenceTM technology, to automatically align Beam Dynamic's Laser Machines' coordinate system to the work piece. What this means is, if you know the relative location of defined features on a given work piece, the Beam laser machine can automatically align its coordinate system to the cut part. This is a true machine vision system. It allows automated alignment, using any existing features (e.g.; holes, markings, structures, engravings, etc.), when you know their relative position with respect to the intended laser cut or engraving.

The system is capable of translating and rotating the coordinates of an Beam laser machine job based on one, two, three, or four alignment marks on the work piece. Beam Vision searches for the alignment marks in the expected position that is preprogrammed in the job file. Beam Vision then makes a measurement of the actual position of the registration feature(s), calculates the rotation and offset of the part, and then cuts the piece or part with precision. The power of a true machine vision system allows for a range of process options, including compensation for screen stretch, automatic re-scaling of features, error averaging and compensation for distortion. This is important, because parts are not only precisely cut, but errors and process limitations of other fabrication steps can be ameliorated with Beam Vision, thereby allowing for quickly produced perfect parts, each and every time. Each motion command is offset and rotated based on the calculation, until a new alignment measurement cycle is done. A job can have a number of alignment measurements throughout, thus improving cut accuracy.

Beam Vision's capabilities are unlike alternative optical alignment systems, primarily because it can be trained to recognize virtually any mark(s) as an alignment mark, and because it allows for cut compensation based on a larger number of alignment marks. This is a very powerful capability, because it allows one to recognize registration marks on materials (e.g.; flexible circuits in a polyimide lamination), which would not be possible with alternative systems. These system features helps our customers improve cut precision and save on material costs and time. Further, setup time and changing jobs is made much easier, with attendant gains in production efficiency. For some, the Return On Investment (ROI) can be a matter of days.

The management software and tools of Beam Vision are fully integrated with the attached HMI ProPanel workstation and LaserLink.
